Yesterday was the first time in a long while I felt genuinely happy, that my smiles were honest and when I laughed – I wasn’t lying.
And that is why I love Charlene. Havent heard that name in a while, right?
But she’s my best friend for many different reasons – and we revisited those reasons at Stasis 10, which turned out better than we expected.
It was just supposed to be for B Quartet but I forgot that Fishtank was performing too, good thing we came earlier than we thought we would just in time to catch them.
Halfway through, the bassist teased us with a few notes from the one song that I recall to be the anthem of our sec 2 days. That very few notes were the first notes Iylia (I remember him, and i remember this moment in time but i cant say for sure if HE does.) taught me to play in the Ngee Ann Sec canteen.
I didnt dare to hope that they would be so kind to play it for us (caught them two years ago at Bar None and they showed NO HINT of the song) – but they did, as an encore.
So we, Kit and Fran, went berserk to “What About You”.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg fun. FUNFUNFUN.
After the band that came after them turned out to be lebih indah khabar dari rupa (ehem) we went to get some fresh air at SMU across the road, with chips and drinks… and while it was quite the opposite of the ruckus of Substation, I felt quite comfortable and senang hati. We just sit quietly and flip magazines, contented with the fact that we still do finish each others sentences.
We returned to catch B Quartet just in time, tapi tak puas hati. Kurang ajar, they do that on purpose so we’ll go to their launch kan! FINE THEN I’LL GO. (Acherri I was going to go anyway. Haiyah so groupie right.) Then stood through the questionable smelling crowd through Great Spy Experiment … not quite my cawan teh tapi boleh jalan lah eh member. BECAUSE we wanted to be at the front for Plain Sunset (Or Slain Punset as they wanted to be known for that day).
Now this is where I bow my head down and put my tail in between my legs to admit, just as I have for Force Vomit, that this is the first time I’m catching Plain Sunset. Also, that I can only sing along to one song (other than the second anthem for me and Charlene – “were not out, were not in, were not comfortable we just dont fit in!)
SHAME, BAHRIAH, SHAME!
Supper with her and her friends also rewarded me with good conversation, since i cant really connect with the company i keep nowadays on certain topics.
We left before the rest, and were about to hop into a cab when someone called out “Bahriah!”
Now, who still calls me by that name, kan? In the middle of a dark road in Kembangan some more.
It turned out to be Imp, “the Ross Gellar look alike with neverending Hitler Nazi jokes who has a cat named Tiger that likes Powermetal and was once very close with Mr Panic at the Smoking Alley”, driving down to Raimah.
Charlene had to go, but since I still had time I went down with them armed with teh o ais limau for a few tak kering gusi hours.
I hardly meet Imp, maybe once or twice a year but catching up is always fun.
Hanging out last night reminds me how great it is how some people really never change. They’re older, wiser. More financially stable (well, them. Not yet for me.) with more facial hair. Or a different dress sense, or different accents.
But no matter what, theres still that understanding that can only be shared after years of being conditioned with each others character.
Last night, all of us, any one of us – we caught each others eye before bursting into laughter. We shared a split second, we shared a moment in time.
And just like it’s always been and always will be, it was totally rad.
