its dawning on me how the calendar of events for the year is getting more sexciting by the minute. i dont recall being this jittery in a while. on my list of ‘whoohoo’s: little ashes, wolverine, harry potter and the halfblood prince, inglorious basterds, s. darko, sherlock holmes, the imaginarium of doctor parnassus, transformers: revenge of the fallen because of linkin park’s participation in the score…. even star trek and new moon for the “lulz irl” (laugh-out-loud in real life) as it is, i’ve already been enthralled by benjamin’s butang and i’m upset i didn’t get to watch yasmin ahmad’s talentime. oh – also, the watchmen sucked.

on the earwax front: green day’s 21st century breakdown, incubus’ monuments and melodies and the as yet un-named dillinger escape plan project. plus there’s word about no doubt, goo goo dolls, garbage, lamb of god, massive attack and maybe even muse. *falls back off chair*

word of prospects for a potential project in the near future have also been mentioned – leaving my heart palpitating. if i’m not left high and dry, it’s going to be one hell of a year.

i’m sorry, i’m sorry. i’m not sure.

“No, you are not worthy of the love which I have devoted to you. I knew all along that the prize I had set my life on was not worth the winning; that I was a fool, with fond fancies, too, bartering away my all of truth and ardour against your little feeble remnant of love. I will bargain no more: I withdraw.”

- William Thackeray, Vanity Fair

Alon Pinkas, Consul General for Israel in New York was recently quoted as saying – ” We are currently in a conflict with the Palestinians, engaging in a successful PR campaign is part of winning the conflict.”

So you can say that in addition the to military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, Israel is also involved in an attempt to ideologically occupy the American media.

After the PR disaster of Lebanon, Israel decided to set up permanent institutional structures to control how Americans would think about the Middle East. In 1983, Israel launched the Hasbara project, the aim of which was to ensure good press in the US media. The goal was to train Israeli diplomats in Communications and Public Relations. (visual: “..training information officers to present Israeli’s case to TV anchormen around the world”)

For example they trained press officers in Israeli consulates in the US to ensure that American journalists would write stories favourable to Israel. As one of these press officers said in the 1980′s – he had breakfast, lunch and dinner with journalists and that a typical day would involve conversations with producers at leading news and TV talk shows about the content of the program. He described it as, in fact – quote ” A joint formulation of ideas”.

Hussein Ibish (American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, USA)
Because of lack of access to Palestinian officials in the West Bank, and the sophistication of Israel’s PR techniques inside Israel, alot of times these stories are already tilted in Israel’s favour before they ever leave American journalists sitting in the area.

Seth Ackerman (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, USA)
Even in Israel itself you can find the main daily newspaper, like Ha’aretz, for example, provides coverage on the ground, and analysis some of which has views on the conflict that would almost be beyond pale for an American journalist at the New York Times to write.

A typical TV news report, for example, would show you dramatic pictures of these confrontations where Palestinians are confronting Israeli troops and the Israeli troops are responding. For most Americans, you don’t understand the history of the conflict. These are an example of the riots that are going on, which the authorities are taking measures to crack down. What’s not mentioned is the fact that these confrontations are taking place on occupied territory.

The Israeli troops who are there are defending an occupation that doesn’t have any international legitimacy. It’s illegal.

i started taking my resolutions seriously when i was seventeen and decided that it was time to let my hair down, instead of being angry all the time. at eighteen i wanted to fall in love. last year, i got tired and just wanted for everything to fall into place. this year i wanted to hit the ground running.

its all been good so far, i came to realise that i’ve lived through the smiles i prayed for. ive tasted all the asam garam that came with it too. right now the hour is closing in to ’09, and i’m hoping this time i know what i really. really. want. (zig-a-zig ahhh)

i don’t think its ever a good idea to meet your heroes.

…unless it’s yasmin ahmad!
it was awesome, to hear her babble the way i always picture her to sound when i v/o her blog writings in my head. and when she said thank you to us for watching her movie, i honestly considered, for a split second, to grab her and start bawling out of gratitude. but no, have to tahan macho ok. but otherwise, muallaf was an interesting change from the orked series. there are remnants yasmin there that are too ketara, but it really must be approached with an open mind.

i wish i couldve stayed longer and picked her brain raw.

i was watching the msian news one night in ipoh – and there was this bigshot from the police force, if im not wrong, voicing his views on the anwar ibrahim media circus. he defended their politicians, while at the same time also pointing out that ‘if the general public cant trust the leaders enough to lead, (UMNO had just suffered a battering during the elections) how can they believe that the politicians would be cunning enough to come up with such a complicated lie?’
its not a direct quote, but most def somewhere along that line.

ergo, he demeaned the public by questioning their judgement.
what a silly billy man, i thought. the entire reason a portion of the public doesnt trust the leaders to lead is because they keep focusing on coming up with said “complicated lies” and concentrating on their sick powerplay without waking up and smelling their unhygienic public sanitary system.

it irates me so much, their wayang, that i wouldnt even care if he did. fo’ shizzle.

otherwise.
i’ve been vampiring my days. to bed at 8am, up at 4pm before getting up and about. in the meantime – SHOULD HAVE been doing work. but am not. bleurh.

am still very hopped up on happy pills with getting the prize for rok jak gap. i miss the boys :(
and LASTLY – because i owe Olibia a lot of swim-dates… (more…)

was pessimistic right from the get go – didn’t know what to expect, but there you go! first runner up.
don’t mind the buruk screen shots with the top half of the tv cut off – i was too smexited to position the webcam properly.

going through the results was flabbergasting. there wasnt any ‘for definite’ expectations – the boys kept musing on what the pain of defeat tasted like last year – and then came a kick in the head.

when i saw the familiar split screen sequence up on screen, it didnt really hit me what category it was until i saw his full name spelt out mighty bigbig. WAHSEH, had to bite my knuckles so I wouldnt whoop out loud.
